Charleston, SC - October 6, 2023: Kicking off national breast cancer awareness month, a team of local volunteers will be giving away free pink lemonade this Sunday, OCTOBER 8th from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm in front of the Kendra Scott Store at 270 King Street in Charleston to honor breast cancer patients and raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. The event is part of a national campaign by The Pink Lemonade Stand Challenge, a 501(3)(c) nonprofit on a mission to #BeTheEnd of breast cancer by raising funds and support for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Here are the key details:

WHO: This year Kendra Scott, a boutique jewelry shop on King Street, is teaming up with the Pink Lemonade Stand Challenge in Charleston to support breast cancer awareness and research. The company is hosting a Pink Lemonade Stand and offering a limited-edition collection that explores symbols of hope, and gives back to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Since 2016, Kendra Scott has donated more than $2.5 million to breast cancer causes.

WHAT: A kid-fueled national campaign is coming to Charleston serving as an engagement platform aimed at inspiring support for breast cancer research in a hopeful, educational, easy-to-do and fun way. THE GOAL IS TO INSPIRE MORE STANDS, REACH ALL 50 STATES AND RAISE $1M. During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month we are challenging Dr. Jill Biden to #MakeAStand at the White House in honor of breast cancer awareness month. (see the video challenge).

WHERE: at the Kendra Scott Store on 270 King Street, Charleston, SC.

WHEN: Sunday, October 8 from 2 to 4 pm.

WHY: Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women worldwide. Every 14 seconds a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. Everyone cares about someone who has faced this disease.

HOW: At every pink lemonade stand, supporters share free pink lemonade, create an honor board to write the names of those they love who have faced the disease and FLASH THE RIBBON (see photos ) to show support.

The campaign’s goals are to:

  • raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research;
  • educate and create a platform for survivors and loved ones to help the cause;
  • encourage families, communities and businesses to support research.

100% of all funds raised goes directly to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), the largest private funder of breast cancer & metastatic breast cancer research worldwide. In 2022-23 BCRF awarded $52.7 million in annual grants to 255 scientists. Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, BCRF-funded investigators have been involved in every major breakthrough in breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.

About the Pink Lemonade Stand Challenge

The Pink Lemonade Stand Challenge is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit on a mission to #BeTheEnd of breast cancer. Started in 2016 by Brynne (Brr-Inn) Rhodes who made her first lemonade stand at age 7 when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Donors were so generous that Brynne decided to try to inspire other families and communities to follow her lead and the grass roots initiative has grown exponentially. To date, there have been pink lemonade stands in 37 states and more than 50 local news teams have shared the mission with viewers. Brynne has partnered with iconic retail brands: Vineyard Vines, Kendra Scott, Lilly Pulitzer, True Citrus, Movado and Macy’s, launched a pilot Pink Lemonade Day for Breast Cancer Awareness in schools, developed a summer intern program for college students and has inspired pink lemonade stands on college campuses across the country.

All donations, 100% of every cent raised, goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
